Why Blue?

This is a common question I get… and I love it! Blue is more than a colour that I love.  Blue is pure and it is natural.  When I shut my eyes and meditate, I see blue.  Blue represents waves of warmth, comfort, and emotion.  Blue is calming.

I feel a rhythm and gain momentum when I think of blue.  Blue exists in nature in a variety of ways.  A pure blue sky with a speckle of white clouds on a summer’s day.  The cascading shades of blue as the sun rises each morning and the heavy blanket of darker shades as the moon and stars appear at night after a long day of work or play.  The tinge of blue that emanates from melting snow and ice on a crisp, Canadian, winter’s  day.  A blue pond, lake or ocean that is the cornerstone of human nourishment, physically and spiritually.  What other colour can communicate an entire plethora of emotions?  To be blue is a mood, a state of mind, a process.  There are an infinite number of hues of blue.  Have you ever really seen a bad shade of blue?  You can’t say that about orange, yellow, or even green.  Blue is power.  You wear black when you want to conform and blue when you want to command attention.  Everyone can wear blue.

I was first inspired by the perfect blue eyes of my young son.  A marvel as both I and his dad, and his brothers have brown irises.  In those eyes I saw the past, the present and the future.  I reflected on how blue was integral to my childhood – my first special toy, my sister, my first bike.  Today, my life is full of blue – my partner, my family, items in my home.  Those blue eyes of my son, while they hold me in the moment of now, they simultaneously communicate the power of tomorrow – an unscripted future, all that will be seen and experienced, limitless possibilities.

What else could I name my coaching practice, but blue?  It is the colour of my core.
